Description

I am living in an area where users do not get large bandwidth uplinks to the internet. I would love to run a mesh network together with my neighbours, where the uplink bandwidth of all available APs is automatically/magically combined into a virtual, large uplink by the mesh.

So if everyone has only 500k up and I am the only one of my 3 neighbours using the internet at the moment I will have 3x500k.

I think the nodes will have to announce their bandwidth (available bandwidth or at least max. bandwidth) and entry node where the user is connected should split up the data stream on all those nodes.

AFAIK Linux is able to do that with several network cards in the PC, but there the user is directly connected to the one machine. A mesh network will have at least one layer between NIC and user....

In the chat where I started discussing that MPTCP was mentioned. Don't know if this will solve the problem. Will test it.

I think the problem is hard to solve, but having the mesh solve stuff like that magically it would be awesome and add another use case for lots of towns and villages here where there is internet but it is not fast enough.

If there is a solution outside of batman, some documentation would be nice. If I find the solution, I will write it.
