Description

Would like to be able to affect the TQ value on a link between two devices. (to emulate OSPF ability to add hop penalty on a OSPF router except per link or interface instead of entire router)
-goal: to designate a backup link of possibly lower speed that will not degrade network throughput.
-example1: Have a 5.8Ghz link up at 50Mbps and a 900Mhz link up at 11Mbps. Do not want to use the 900Mhz link as it is slower and is only there as a redundancy. Adding TQ would make this a less likely route. Additionally, 900Mhz link maybe have better ping times and could be preferred with the normal decision making algorythm.
-example2: Have multiple links with similar connection statistics but one is in a licensed band. Prefer to use the licensed link because it is less likely to get new interference from another unlicensed device. Ability to reduce the TQ on this link to make it more prefered would be ideal.

Additional option:
Allow this adjustment to TQ on links but also on interfaces, where all links on an interface would get the penalty or preferece in addition to their computed TQ

examples of both:
links:
mac1<>mac2:-2 TQ (prefer this link through normal routing decision but reduce TQ by 2)
mac1<>mac3:+2 TQ (less prefered link)

interfaces.
eth0 in bat0:-1 TQ (prefered link)
eth1 in bat0:+1 TQ (less prefered link)

Would be a very nice feature, wasn't there a patch for this from Freifunk Lübeck to add it interface-based?

With B.A.T.M.A.N. V we are introducing throughput based routing. This should be a much better solution to your throughput routing example. Please give it a try and report back!
